Jeddah – Saudi Arabia, October 29, 2024: Preparations are in full swing in Saudi Arabia ahead of the sixth consecutive running of the world's most prestigious, dramatic and demanding off-road race - the Dakar Rally. The Kingdom will host the rally from January 3rd to 17th, 2025.
The sixth edition of the all-terrain race will start from Bisha in the south of the Kingdom – located at the crossroads connecting the Asir, central and western regions. The route will traverse from the south to the north of the Kingdom, before heading east towards Shubaytah in the Empty Quarter, the largest continuous sand desert in the world. The journey will last 14 days, during which competitors will face several stages, passing through regions with diverse terrains. This will provide participants with the opportunity to explore some of the most breathtaking landscapes and archaeological sites in Saudi Arabia.
The 2024 edition of the Dakar, which was started in January from the ancient city of Al Ula and ended in Yanbu – captured the world’s attention with excitement and drama associated with the unique event. Spanish driver Carlos Sainz, representing Audi, won the car category for the fourth time in his career and the second time on Saudi soil. In the Bike category, American Ricky Brabec claimed first place, while Argentine Manuel Andújar secured the top spot in the quad category. Spanish driver Cristina Gutiérrez took first place in the Challenger desert vehicles category, while Frenchman Xavier de Soultrait won the SSV production vehicle category. Czech driver Martin Macík made history by winning the truck category after 12 attempts, claiming his first Dakar title.
As has become a tradition over the past five years of hosting the rally, the 2025 edition will feature a new route covering previously unexplored regions, with the aim of promoting tourism and showcasing the true beauty of Saudi Arabia. The rally will highlight the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes.
